Is There an Abundance of Video Game Tester Jobs ?
The demand for video game testers it at an all time high at the moment.
In days-gone-by, game companies would have had to go to well known, established game
testers to have their newest game tested before it hit the shelves.
However in the mid 1990s when people started buying PCs for home use and more and more
people were getting involved in console gaming, the opportunity to test games form home and get paid for it rose.
It wasn’t long before the major game publishers started to recruit testers via internet
sites.
And now that finding the game testers had become a lot easier an increasing number of them
were being hired for freelance testing from home so that companies could get an opinion from people of all walks of life.
Each and every year you see numerous games hitting the shelves mostly from the big brand
name game companies like EA, Ubisoft, and Microsoft.
That makes up a good number of games for the average buyer to choose from at the local
game store but also a large number of games which need to be tested.
Then you have the smaller companies, releasing small promotional demos and niche
games.
For example, BMW released a small racing game in which the player gets to drive their new
BMW M5 around Nuremburg.
They made this free to download as a great way of marketing their new product.
This theory also has applications elsewhere, with even the military releasing a free,
downloadable and very extensive game called ‘America’s Army’ to increase recruitment into the army.
Remember, each and every one of these games needs to be tested by hundreds of game testers
from all over the world, which offers great opportunities to gamers who would like to become a game tester.
Today, the demand is growing and it doesn’t look like its going to stop any time
soon.
This is because the industry is worth over $40 Billion and is acquiring new gamers every
day with the new generations becoming more hooked than the last.
Game companies are also frequently splitting and thus creating more game companies, and
in-turn, the need for more testers.
To cut to the chase, now is a better time than ever to become a game tester and get paid
to play video games at home.
